When building a man cave consult an expert. We caught up with Jeff Iblings founder of This Charming Man Cave and asked him about his favorite hideout.
We love your lot, where do you find the items?
I find most of the items at estate, garage, and rummage sales. I’m beginning to spend a lot of my free time in search of the perfect items to sell in my store. Sometimes I find things I can’t bear to part with, which can be a little dangerous.
What are the top 3 essentials for a Man Cave?
A relaxing atmosphere, good music, and a fantastic book to stretch out with.
Is a Man Cave a grown up and lower version of a tree house?
Absolutely. These are the places where your father and your friends dads went to get away from everything. They were those mystical places we weren’t allowed to go as kids unless you snuck in, so we built our own up in trees or under the stairs. The only difference is now there’s a nice cold beer available and no spiders. If you have the means to put your Man Cave up a tree I envy you.
Jeff lives in Minneapolis with his wonderful wife Regan (The real artist in the family) and his hamster, who may very well be immortal. Jeff took possession of his father’s record player as a kid and thus began his love for vintage items. They seemed built tougher, made to last, and there was a mystique about them Jeff wanted to share with others.
